Serving Tax-Exempt and Nonprofit Organizations
The Firm’s tax attorneys assist its nonprofit clients with the obtaining and maintaining federal tax-exempt status, and navigating a mine field of difficult tax issues including treatment of unrelated business taxable income (UBTI), private increment and conflict of interest issues, excess benefit transactions, fundraising issues, and compliance with federal and state disclosure and tax rules including preparation and filing of annual federal and state tax returns (Form 990, Form 990-PF and NJ CRI). We work closely with members of our Corporate Department and our clients’ accounting team in counseling them on employment and human resource matters and state and federal labor compliance. Our services include assisting our nonprofit clients with strategic long-range planning, volunteer liability issues and advising boards and their trustees of their obligations with respect to best practices in their administrative and tax compliance matters.
From animal rescue organizations, to public charities, to private family foundations (large and small), to private operating foundations for hospitals and educational institutions alike, the firm’s tax attorneys have extensive experience counseling these organizations throughout the duration of their life cycles from formation, to operations, to dissolution.
